What's trending in

plastic surgery?

What plastic surgery procedures are hot right now? Well, that depends on how you think about hotness. If hot means popular, you’re going to get one set of procedures. If hot means rising popularity (instead of already there), you’re going to get another set of procedures. Hot also could mean something trendy that’s just getting started. But don’t worry, we’ll pick through each one of these to come up with a couple of procedures that are hot right now.

Plastic surgery is always striving to meet public demand. That’s why we (and plastic surgeons themselves) like to keep track of popular procedures. It helps to anticipate what’s to come as well as meet the demands of today. So what plastic surgery procedures are hot right now? That questions isn’t quite as simple as it seems.

What Plastic Surgery Procedures Are Hot Right Now?

There are a few different ways to measure what might be hot at any given moment. You can measure by sheer popularity. Or you can measure by word of mouth. Sometimes people start talking about procedures before data starts showing up in the statistics. And in still other cases, you might mean “hot” as in “up and coming.”

So “hot” could mean a few different things. And while that could be a little frustrating for someone looking to gather statistics on the use and popularity of certain procedures, it does allow us to take a little less structured approach to tackling this question. Which means that the answers could be a little more interesting than usual.

Breast Augmentation is Easily the Most Popular

When it comes to invasive plastic surgery, breast augmentation is easily the most popular procedure at the moment. It was king of the hill in the 2017 statistics compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and that’s still an improvement on the number of procedures performed in the year 2000.

In other words, breast augmentation was the most in demand plastic surgery procedure of 2017, and we don’t see that changing any time soon. In fact, it’s likely that breast augmentation will only get more popular.

What makes that interesting is that the size increase requested by patients has been somewhat modest over the past few years. That’s because:

  • Patients want an increase in bust size that looks and feel very natural
  • Most patients do not want to draw attention to the fact that they had plastic surgery
  • To a certain degree, many patients are also looking to avoid some of the downsides of overly large breasts
  • Most patients are also looking to achieve a proportional look; they want their bust in proportion to their hips, for example

That breast augmentation is able to deliver natural looking results makes it a perpetually “hot” procedure.

Lip Fillers

While lip injections do not reach quite the numbers that breast augmentation does, at least in terms of sheer volume of procedures performed, they’re still worth mentioning as a hot procedure. There are two big reasons for that:

  • Lip fillers are talked about a lot (and people having larger, fuller lips is talked about even more
  • Injectable lip augmentation also represents a larger trend within the world of plastic and cosmetic surgery: non invasive procedures that produce great results

These non invasive procedures really got started, in part, with the non surgical nose job. That’s when patients started taking seriously the idea that, for some, an injectable could do the work of actual surgery. And one of the most popular procedures in that regard is lip augmentation.

Here’s how lip fillers basically work: you go in, your lips get injected with a dermal filler, and you go home. The whole process takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes, depending on the surgeon. And when you’re done, you get to see your plumper, fuller lips immediately. The results will fade over time, depending on the filler of choice.

But you can see why the procedure resides in the “hot” category. People get bigger lips without the need for surgery. Sure, it’s temporary and there are tradeoffs. But lip fillers are definitely hot.

What’s Hot to You?

To a certain extent, it doesn’t really matter what’s hot in the broader sense of the word. What matters much more is what’s hot to you. Plastic surgery is designed to address issues or discomforts that you have.

In other words, it’s more important what’s hot to you than what’s hot to everyone else. Sure, breast augmentation is popular. But maybe it’s a bread reduction that will make you feel good. Knowing what you need and what you want–even if it seems to go against the grain of what’s hot–is incredibly important.

Once you figure out what’s hot for you, when you find out: what plastic surgery procedures are hot right now for my body, you’ll be in a better position to make sure you get the right procedure that will make you happy in the long run. And that’s really what it’s all about!
